For centuries, the vampires of Nyxhaven have lived in the shadow of the Salvia Moon—a powerful, witch-conjured force that burns their kind and binds them in chains of submission. The witches of the Beltraine Sisterhood use the moon’s deadly light to keep the vampire houses in check, forcing them to cower in darkness, hiding from its lethal glow. But the vampires are growing desperate, restless, and vengeful, yearning for the day they can break free from the witches' dominion and reclaim their birthright.

At the heart of this impending storm are two young women: Gloria, a teenage vampire hiding her identity from the savage witches of the Beltraine Sisterhood, and Tamsyn, the daughter of the Vampire King, who desperately conceals her witch abilities lest she is killed by her own kind. Bound by a shared destiny, their fates are entangled in an ancient prophecy—a prophecy that speaks of the BloodVeil, a being with the power to destroy the Salvia Moon and rewrite the balance of power in the city of Nyxhaven.

As whispers of rebellion rise and the glare of Salvia Moon renders the situation untenable for the vampires, tensions between witches and vampires ignite into an all-out war. Both sides race to find the BloodVeil, believing she will tip the scales in their favor. But neither knows the truth: the BloodVeil is already among them, hidden in plain sight, waiting for her moment to rise.

In a world where alliances shift like shadows and betrayal is as common as blood, Gloria and Tamsyn must navigate a deadly path—one that will determine not just the future of Nyxhaven, but the fate of the entire world. The war is coming, and when it does, the BloodVeil will rise… but no one is prepared for the darkness she will unleash.

Part 1: The History of Nyxhaven

Nyxhaven was not always a land of darkness. Once, it thrived under the balance of day and night. But in an ancient age, the witches of the Beltraine Sisterhood performed a great and terrible ritual: they banished the Sun, plunging Nyxhaven into perpetual night to curb the rising power of vampires, whose bloodlust threatened the balance of the world. Without sunlight, Nyxhaven became a realm ruled by the cycles of the moon, each phase bringing its own unique influence upon the supernatural beings that now roam the land.

There are four normal phases of the moon, each lasting six hours, cycling continuously to control the flow of magic and life in Nyxhaven:

Ebenveil Moon: The phase of total darkness and eerie quiet, where the moon is black and the land falls into a deathly stillness. It is a time for dreams to cease and deep secrets to surface, a dangerous phase for witches and mortals alike as the shadows themselves seem alive.

Ashveil Moon: A cold and ashen moon, its light dim and brittle. This phase enhances the stealth and cunning of creatures that lurk in the dark, empowering vampires to hunt without fear. Witches and lycans find their magic weakened under its muted glow.

Emberglow Moon: A warm, orange phase, offering a brief period of safety for witches and mortals. The Emberglow strengthens healing magic, providing some respite from the harsher forces that Nyxhaven endures. It is a time of recovery and protection.

Opalesque Moon: The most mystical of the regular phases, the Opalesque Moon shines with a pale, iridescent glow that enhances both witchcraft and vampiric powers. It is a time for rituals, divination, and forbidden pacts.

Rare Moons occasionally disrupt this regular cycle, each bringing dramatic consequences:

Salvia Moon: The witches' greatest weapon, the Salvia Moon’s brilliant silver rays are lethal to vampires. Bathed in this moon’s light, vampires burn and disintegrate, and it is only under its glare that they are truly vulnerable. Witches channel the Salvia Moon’s power to fuel their most devastating spells, particularly during vampire banishments.

Widow Moon: The darkest of all moons, the Widow Moon’s pale, sorrowful light pulls at the deepest grief and despair within all beings. It is a time when spirits walk freely and the boundaries between life and death blur. Magic during this phase is perilous and unpredictable, and the living often avoid any rituals during its brief, haunting hours.

Under these moons, witches, vampires, lycans, and other supernatural beings fight for dominance. The Salvia Moon in particular has been the bane of the vampires, used by the witches to maintain their control over Nyxhaven for centuries. Yet now, as the vampires grow more desperate and rebellious, whispers of a long-forgotten prophecy echo in the shadows—a prophecy that speaks of the BloodVeil, a being powerful enough to overturn the order of the moons and destroy the Salvia Moon once and for all.

Part 2: The Beltraine Sisterhood

The Beltraine Sisterhood is the most powerful coven of witches in Nyxhaven, its influence spanning centuries of control over the land. They are the keepers of the Salvia Moon, using its magic to maintain their grip on the vampire houses, and their home, Beltraine Castle, is an imposing fortress perched high above the misty cliffs, bordered by the vast Shadowgrove Forest. Its towering spires and gothic chambers are filled with ancient grimoires, occult relics, and powerful artifacts.

At the helm of the Sisterhood are the Three Headmistresses, each a master of her own unique form of magic, bound by ancient laws to protect Nyxhaven and uphold the witches' supremacy:

Mother Lysandra, the Mother of Light, is the eldest and most revered. She is known for her stern, unforgiving demeanor and her unparalleled control over divine magic, which cleanses and purifies. Her vestal, Aurelius, is a spectral guardian that drifts like vapor through the halls of Beltraine, ensuring order and peace.

Mother Meirothea, the Mother of Mercy, wields powerful healing magic and commands the terrifying Paracelsus, a vestal of cauterizing light that obliterates enemies in blinding flashes. Despite her title, Meirothea’s mercy often comes with great cost, as her purifying magic can just as easily kill as it can save.

Mother Crimsonia, the Mother of Justice, is the youngest but most feared. She is a warrior in spirit, her magic rooted in righteous judgment and punishment. Her vestal, Obsidia, is a shadowy wraith capable of drawing souls from bodies, an executioner bound to her will.

Beneath the Headmistresses, the witches of Beltraine study the Artageca Magic System, a highly complex form of witchcraft based on an individual's Ascendant, Sun, and Moon signs. Each witch’s magical abilities are shaped by these astrological forces, determining her connection to elemental magic, her capacity for channeling moonlight, and her affinity for the spiritual or physical realms. Ascendant signs dictate a witch’s core nature, Sun signs fuel her inner strength, and Moon signs govern her emotional and spiritual magic.

Gloria, a first-year witch at Beltraine, is unlike the others. Though she struggles with traditional magic, she is gifted with a rare and dangerous power: she is a Channeler. Gloria’s ability allows her to imbue her own life force into the Chain of Glory, a ritual used to banish vampires by channeling the collective power of the witches into destructive Salvia fire. Though her power is essential to the Sisterhood’s most potent rituals, it comes at great personal cost—every time Gloria channels, it drains her, leaving her vulnerable to the very forces she helps destroy.

The Chain of Glory is one of the Sisterhood’s most feared and revered rituals, used to perform vampire banishments. During the ceremony, thirteen witches form a circle, channeling their collective magic through the Chain, but it is Gloria’s life force that amplifies the spell and summons the deadly Salvia fire, burning the vampire victim alive. Though the ceremony is seen as a necessary evil, Gloria is haunted by her role in these executions, and the toll it takes on her soul.

To the west of Beltraine Castle lies the Shadowgrove Forest, a forbidden and eerie place that separates the Sisterhood from their male counterparts, the Alphatenory Brotherhood. The Brotherhood is a secretive order of male witches who are rarely seen, their magic said to be different from the women of Beltraine. Few know of their inner workings, but they play a crucial part in maintaining the balance of power in Nyxhaven.

Part 3: The Vampire Houses

Once the dominant force in Nyxhaven, the Vampire Houses have long suffered under the oppressive light of the Salvia Moon. There are three remaining vampire houses, each with its own ruler, bloodline, and purpose. These ancient families are bound together by blood and loyalty, but their unity is fracturing under the weight of their desperation.

THE BLACKCROSS HOUSE

The Blackcross House, led by Draven Blackcross, is the most powerful and feared of the vampire families. Draven, the self-styled Vampire King, is ruthless, cunning, and determined to free his people from the witches' domination. His ambition drives him to plot the destruction of the Salvia Moon and reclaim the vampires’ former glory. He rules from Blackcross Castle, a towering citadel of darkness, and his word is law among the vampires.

NIGHTCREED HOUSE

The Nightcreed House, led by Owl Nightcreed, serves as the vampires’ protectors, using powerful aura detection magic to shield their kind from the witches. Owl is reserved and calculating, but his wife, Carmine, harbors her own ambitions and secretly plots to usurp Draven’s power. Their twin children, Sebastian and Selena, are also key players in the Nightcreed’s future.

MOONSHADOW HOUSE

The Moonshadow House, ruled by Lilith Moonshadow, is the house of prophecy and divination. Using Heka magic, a dark art of blood divination, Lilith seeks to unravel the mystery of the Salvia Moon and find a way to destroy it. Her house often acts as mediators between the vampire families, though her loyalty is not always certain.

The now-disbanded Ashenhollow House was once a powerful force, but centuries ago, it was mysteriously obliterated. Some say the house was cursed by the witches, others believe it was destroyed by internal betrayal. Though Ashenhollow is no longer recognized as an official house, rumors persist that remnants of their bloodline still linger in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to return.

The title of Vampire King is conferred upon the strongest and most feared leader of the vampire families. Currently, Draven Blackcross holds this title, ruling with an iron fist. He is determined to liberate the vampires from the witches' control, but his rule is threatened by internal strife and the growing power of the prophecy that speaks of the BloodVeil.

Tamsyn Blackcross, Draven’s daughter, is caught between two worlds. Though she is the heir to the Blackcross family, she harbors a secret: she is also a witch, born with powers that her father despises. She struggles to hide her abilities, knowing that if Draven ever learned the truth, he would kill her without hesitation. Tamsyn’s journey is fraught with danger as she navigates her dual identity, torn between loyalty to her family and the powerful magic she cannot control.

FANGSWORTH HOUSE

The Fangsworth House was once a prominent vampire family in Nyxhaven, known for their independence and rebellious spirit. Led by the ambitious Vain Fangsworth, the house sought to break away from the influence of the other vampire families, particularly the dominant Blackcross House. Vain’s desire was for the Fangsworths to stand as a self-sufficient force, free from the ancient vampire laws that bound the other houses. However, this bold move led to a deep rift between the Fangsworths and the rest of the vampire fraternity, culminating in the capture and imprisonment of Vain's son, Kain Fangsworth, by Draven Blackcross. The Fangsworth House now teeters on the brink of collapse, isolated and fractured, with Kain caught in a political struggle that pits him against his own kind. Despite their diminished status, the Fangsworths still hold onto their pride and the hope of reclaiming their former glory, but their future remains uncertain as the tides of war between witches and vampires intensify.

Part 4: The BloodVeil Prophecy

At the heart of Nyxhaven’s fate is the BloodVeil Prophecy, an ancient and cryptic foretelling of a being with the power to upend the balance between witches and vampires. Both sides fear the prophecy, yet they seek to control it, believing that the BloodVeil holds the key to victory in the war for Nyxhaven. The prophecy is as follows:

The spirit of the BloodVeil shall rise

Born from a womb of Gemini

Her birth augured by the Widow Moon

Sired by the blood, mothered by the fire

The one shall hide in the serpent’s blood

Her energy, estranged, nurtured by the fire

And as the serpent coils around the Veil

It coils around itself

Quickening both peace and darkness…

Her heart crossed in revenant black

The birth of a terrible power to crumble worlds

Rebuilding with blood for mortar

And the whitened bones of the graceless dead

The BloodVeil is said to be the only force capable of destroying the Salvia Moon, a being who can wield both witchcraft and the primal strength of vampires. Both the vampires and witches believe that finding the BloodVeil will secure their dominance over Nyxhaven. For the vampires, she represents freedom from the Salvia Moon’s curse, a way to rise from the ashes and reclaim their place in the world. For the witches, she is a threat like no other—one that could destroy their carefully crafted order.

As the prophecy spreads, the search for the BloodVeil begins, with both sides unaware that she may already walk among them. Unbeknownst to either the witches or the vampires, two young women—Gloria of the Beltraine Sisterhood and Tamsyn Blackcross—are at the center of this ancient prophecy. Their intertwined fates will either lead to salvation or destruction, but no one, not even they, are aware of the true power they possess.

When the BloodVeil rises, the war between witches and vampires will reach its ultimate and devastating conclusion, and the fate of all Nyxhaven will hang in the balance.
